Penoyar who held title to several large timber tracts in the area, and who deeded the right-of-way to the California Northeastern Railroad, an SP subsidiary which actually built the section from Grass Lake to Klamath Falls in 1906-1909. Description:  "Popsicle" SP 7399 is on the rear of this westbound to add extra dynamic braking for the 2% descent to Dunsmuir. Rebuilt from SP SD45 8837 by SP at Sacramento in October 1981, using an SD40-2 electrical standards and a 3000-horsepower, 16-cylinder diesel engine, retaining its original SD45 carbody, this unit was mechanically similar to the earlier SD40R rebuilds. She was sold to EMD on 10/31/98 and subsequently leased back to UP as UP SD40-2 4766 on 9/4/99. Date of photo approximate.
