Description:  Great example of the NYC 4-6-4 Hudsons that passed through Indiana. Built by Alco-Schenectady in january of 1930, this Hudson is stopped at the Elkhart, IN, station on its way from Chicago to back east. Specs - serial #68177, J-1d class, 79" drivers, 25x28" cylinders, engine weight of 362,500 lb. The photo is by Luvergne G. Isaac but no date was given so an approximate date was used.

Built by Alco-Schenectady in May of 1931, it has many of the upgrades and revisions in the long developmental history of the Hudsons. Description:  The yard crew catch a ride on the pilot of this Alco built 0-6-0 owitcher. Note on the back states that this switcher is running o` the Michigan Central lines in Detroit. Originally it was numbered in the 8500's. According to the August, 1940 issue of "Railroad Magazine", the specs on this loco are `lass B-10, 58" drivers, 180 psi boiler pressure, 21x28" cylinders, engine weight of 163-000 lb, tractive effort of 32,570 lb.
