Description:  Winter Day. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during February of 1966. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #6027, #6506, and #6026. All were built in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #6027 and #6026 are EF-25A's built by EMD, but #6506 is a GF-25A built by General Electric. They are about to pass under the 4th Street Bridge and into the Eastbound Receiving Yard with a fully-loaded coal train. Visible in the distance is the 7th Street Bridge. The venerable black water tower ~ last vestige of the Age of Steam in this part of town ~ stands guard on the right.

Description:  Winter Day. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during February of 1966. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #6027, #6506, and #6026. All were built in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #6027 and #6026 are EF-25A's built by EMD, but #6506 is a GF-25A built by General Electric. It is pulling a string of empty hopper cars under the 4th Street Bridge on their way up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West.

They are about to pass under the 4th Street Bridge with a passenger train bound for Harrisburg, Philadelphia, and New York City. Partially visible in the background is the 7th Street Bridge.

Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #7262 and three other units whose numbers are not recorded. All were built by EMD. #7262 is an EFS-17M built in 1959 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. They are about to pass under the 4th Street Bridge and into the Eastbound Receiving Yard with a fully-loaded coal train. The westbound train of empty hopper cars pulled by engine #6046 is on the next track over. Visible in the distance is the 7th Street Bridge; beyond the Bridge are some of the PRR 12th Street Car Shop buildings. They are about to pass under the 12th Street Bridge with a mixed-cargo freight train on their way up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West. The two-story gray building on the left is the Railway Express Office; two of the PRR 12th Street Car Shop buildings are partially visible on the right. Visible in the distance is the 7th Street Bridge.

Description:  Winter Day. Here is an original telephoto view that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad locomotives in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during February of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #8616 and #8614. Both are AS-24M's built by the American Locomotive Company in 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower each. They are passing the Altoona Passenger Station on their way back to East Altoona after making a helper/pusher run up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and back. Visible behind them is the PRR Test Plant building.
