C-424 2403 was constructed in 1964 for the Spokane Portland & Seattle as number 303. DL 2423 |
Description: |
One of DL's other recent repaints is a native to the Keystone State. Built for the Pennsylvania Railroad's freight operations in 1965, the unit had also seen Penn Central and Conrail service before sale to the Morrison Knudson Corporation. Operated as a plant switcher at the MK plant in Hornell, NY for a few years, it moved to shortline operation on the New York & Lake Erie and later Port Colburne Harbor. The well traveled unit has been with the DL since 2007. |

BM 3713 |
Description: |
Steamtown's Boston & Maine Pacific still undergoing restoration inside the restoration shop. A 1934 product of the Lima Locomotive Works, the 3713 was one of the locomotives part of a contest that the B&M held for schoolchildren living along their railroad to name the engines. This locomotive was given the name "Constitution", which lasted through most of its service life. Retired in the 1950s, it would be sold to F. Nelson Blount through the Edaville Railroad as one of the first locomotives that would make up the Steamtown collection. It is currently one of two 4-6-2 type engines from New England under restoration to active service, the other MEC 470 at Ellsworth, ME. |

Another current restoration project at Steamtown is this historic SW-1, constructed by the Electro Motive Corporation in 1939. First tested on the Atlantic Coast Line, it was soon rejected and resold to the Richmond Terminal Railroad. Over the years, through its various owners, it slowly worked its way up the east coast of the United States, finally coming to Pennsylvania in the 1970s under ownership of the Towanda Monroeton Shippers Lifeline. |

LBR 1923 |
Description: |
One of Steamtown's four Consolidation type steam locomotives and the youngest of the group. A product of Alco's Cooke plant, this engine was originally built for use on sugar plantations in Cuba. When the purchase couldn't be completed, the locomotive was put up for sale in the United States, finally purchased by New York shortline Lowville & Beaver River Railroad three years later. The L&BR numbered their new engine in their tradition of road numbers matching the year of acquisition. The 1923 served the line between Lowville and Croghan, NY. |

SF 500 |
Description: |
Stored at the far end of the old DL&W yard is this EMD switcher wearing the colors of one of the old hometown railroads. Never a part of the Lackawanna's diesel fleet, the unit was acquired by the Wabash Railroad from EMD in 1953. Originally WAB 132, it would also work for the Norfolk & Western and Norfolk Southern. Acquired by the Steamtown Foundation in the 1980s as part of a trade with NS for former N&W 1218, the other locomotive in this trade being former NKP 514, it was given Lackawanna paint to fit in with the 1980s Steamtown theme for its operating fleet. |
