At Denholm, Pa., on August 30 a pair of M-1 4-8-2's were hammering west with a seemingly endless train of ore-laden hoppers behind their big tanks." Photo by Don Wood. Shown here (F to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6717 and another locomotive whose road number is not recorded. #6717 is an M-1B (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an M-1A during April of 1930, rebuilt in Juniata as an M-1B in March of 1948, and retired in September of 1958 after 28 years of faithful service. |
