Meridian southern Railway crossing Sowashee creek, well.. sort of.
Title:  Meridian southern Railway crossing Sowashee creek, well.. sort of.
Description:  MDS crawls onto Sowashee creek bridge from the GM&O days where a second track occupied the bridge for the Mobile main line. The railroad just brought their northbound train into town. Stopped by a lone centerbeam in front of them, they stopped short, decoupled from their train- pushed the centerbeam onto the bridge and pulled it back fast and cut away from it allowing gravity to pass them. The idea is to allow the car to roll free while the set of engines goes into another track and the conductor throws a switch to allow for the car to move onto another track to get out of the way. This allows the engine or engines to get out of a dead end that would virtually render them unable to move out. This did not work exactly as planned and the car stopped on the switch so they had to fire more engines up to move the car so they could block the road train.
