Here are several postal cards, magazine photos, and duplicate 35mm color slides of photos of Pennsylvania Railroad locomotives that were taken by Mr. Don Wood. His captions are quoted from his book entitled "I Remember Pennsy" that was published by Audio-Visual Designs of Earlton, New York, during 1973.

Wood. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide (converted to B&W) of a photo by Don Wood that was taken in Morgan, New Jersey, in September of 1954. Shown here (F to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #830 and #1983. Both are K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacifics" built in Juniata. #830 was built in July of 1917 and retired in April of 1958, while #1983 was built in March of 1918 and retired in December of 1955. Mr. Woods' Caption: "Engines 830 and 1983 have just crossed Cheesequake Creek bridge at Morgan Station on the last leg of the journey from Bay Head to South Amboy. Train is No. 782." PRR 3751, K-4S, c. 1955
Description:
Wood. Here is an image of a photo by Don Wood that was taken near Matawan, New Jersey, c. 1955. Wood's Caption: "3751 & 1361 on the move up Matawan Hill at milepost 6. That's fireman Ferdinand Norman leaning out of 3751's cab. Train 784 was usually double-headed on Sunday as part of a power transfer move." #3751 and #1361 are both K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacifics" built in Juniata. #3751 was constructed in April of 1920 and retired in November of 1957. #1361 was built in May of 1918, retired in September of 1956, enshrined at the Horseshoe Curve on 8 June 1957, restored for excursion service during 1987-1988, withdrawn from service and disassembled because of safety concerns, and is now being restored again for further excursion service. PRR 5439, K-4S, c. 1956
Description:
Wood. Here is an image of a photo by Don Wood that was taken near Bay Head Junction, New Jersey, c. 1956. Wood's Caption: "Bay Head Jct. afforded many opportunities for shooting the unusual. Case in point: K-4's 5439 and 3750 flank passenger 'Shark' 5783." #5439 is a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during March of 1927 and retired in April of 1958. #3750 is a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" constructed in Juniata as number "3750" in March of 1920, renumbered "1737" in 1956, and presently on display as number "3750" at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg. And #5783 is a BP-20 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in November of 1948, rated at 2,000 horsepower, and retired in November of 1964. William E. Burket Collection.

Wood. Here is a postal card entitled "Pennsylvania 5406." No Postmark. Caption On Reverse: "Class K-4 Pacific awaits arrival of GG-1 powered train from New York City at South Amboy, N.J. At this point, New York and Long Branch trains change engines and continue to the northern New Jersey shore. April 1956. Photo by Don Wood." #5406 is a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in February of 1927 and retired in February of 1958 after 31 years of faithful service. Mr Woods' Caption: "Baldwin built 5406 on the 'trailer track' near Connover's Cove, South Amboy. Steam K4's usually waited here for GG1-powered trains from New York."

Wood. Here is a duplicate 35mm B&W slide of a photo by Don Wood that was taken near Weigh Scales, Pennsylvania, in May of 1956. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #1126, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built in Juniata as an I-1S during October of 1918, rebuilt as an I-1SA by 1953, and retired in September of 1959. Actually, this is a "Decapod" double-header: #1126 is followed by #4519 ~ built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in August of 1923 and retired in October of 1959.

All 2-10-0's in ore train service were based at Northumberland enginehouse." Partially visible here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #4315 and #4393. Both are I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapods" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. #4315 was constructed as an I-1S during December of 1922, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in July of 1941, and retired in October of 1959. #4393 was built as an I-1S during February of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in April of 1942, and retired in August of 1959. Here is an image of a photo by Don Wood that was taken near Denholm, Pennsylvania, in June of 1956., Wood's Caption: "4-8-2 6782 booms by double-slotted sisters 6717 and 6921 at Denholm., on PG5, will scoop water at Hawstone track pans a few miles west; the other M1's will fill up at Denholm's standpipes while taking on coal." #6782 is an M-1B built by the Lima Locomotive Works as an M-1A during March of 1930, rebuilt in Juniata as an M-1B by 1953, and retired in September of 1958. #6717 is an M-1B consvructed by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an M-1A in April of 1930, rebuilt in Juniata as an M-1B in March of 1948, and retired in September of 1958. Both were built by the American Locomotive Company. #9629 is an AF-16 built in December of 1951, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in January of 1967. Wood. Here is a postal card entitled "Pennsylvania 5439." No Postmark. Caption On Reverse: "In the darkness of night, Class K-4 Pacific No. 5439 stands at rest in the South Amboy, N.J., enginehouse. The time was October, 1957, three weeks before the end of all steam operations on the Pennsylvania R.R. Photo by Don Wood." #5439 is a K-4S (4-6-2) built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during March of 1927 and retired in April of 1958 after 31 years of faithful service. Mr. Woods' Caption: "K4 5439 poses in the doorway of South Amboy enginehouse. The time was late on two counts: the 1:30 AM photo time plus the curtain coming down on the career of the engine herself, as well as for all Pennsy steam. The end was less than a month away, at this was October, 1957."

Wood. Here is a photo by Don Wood that was taken in Northumberland, Pennsylvania, on Monday, 13 May 1968. It comes from an article by Robert Emerson & Kurt Bell entitled "The Pennsylvania Railroad's Historical Collection" that was published in the Fall 1996 issue of "Vintage Rails," pages 82-83. Partial Caption: "In the roundhouse, Nos. 460, 2846, 7688, and 94 shine brightly as afternoon sunlight shows off the new paint jobs." Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #460, #2846, #7688, and #94; all are presently on display at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. #460 is an E-6S (4-4-2) "Atlantic" built in Juniata in August of 1914. #2846 is an H-6SB (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an H-6B in November of 1905 and rebuilt in Juniata as an H-6SB in November of 1913. #7688 is an H-10S (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built by the Lima Locomotive Works in September of 1915. And #94 is an A-5S (0-4-0) switcher built in Juniata in January of 1917.
