Description:  Here is a post card via Peter Outerbridge entitled "Pennsylvania 713." Caption On Reverse: "Pennsylvania 713. 0-4-0 No. 713, Pennsylvania Railroad Class A-5s, travels down the street in Atlantic City, N.J., April 25, 1954. Forty-seven locomotives of this class were turned out by the Pennsy's Juniata Shops. Photo by Douglas Wormom." Shown here is PRR engine #713, an A-5S (0-4-0) switcher built in Juniata during January of 1917 and retired in January of 1956 after 39 years of faithful service.

Description:  Here is a post card via Peter Outerbridge entitled "Pennsylvania 1816." Caption On Reverse: "Class G-5s Ten-Wheeler steam locomotives were designed for suburban service, providing quick acceleration between closely-spaced stations on commuter runs. Juniata Shops turned out 90 locomotives of this class for the PRR between 1923 and 1925. No. 1816 rests between runs at Pemberton, N.J., February 22, 1952." Shown here is PRR engine #1816, a G-5S (4-6-0) "Ten-Wheeler" built in Juniata as number "5706" during August of 1924, renumbered "1816" in 1951, and retired in October of 1952 after 28 years of faithful service.

Pacific K-4s No. 1361 on the waiting track at South Amboy, N.J., ready for a train to the Jersey Shore, August 4, 1954. After being retired from service, No. 1361 was placed on display along the mainline at Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pa. Photo by Jim Fritts" Shown here is PRR engine #1361, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during May of 1918, retired in September of 1956 after amassing over 2,469,000 revenue miles, enshrined at the Horseshoe Curve on 8 June 1957, restored for excursion service during 1987-1988, withdrawn from service and disassembled because of safety concerns, and is now being restored again for further excursion service.

Description:  Here is a post card via Peter Outerbridge entitled "Horseshoe Curve." Caption On Reverse: "Horseshoe Curve. Altoona, Pa. Pennsylvania Railroad K-4s No. 1361 on display at the Horseshoe Curve. This locomotive was the premier steam passenger engine on the PRR. The railroad donated this engine to the city of Altoona in recognition of decades of service. It was also constructed in Altoona." Shown here is PRR engine #1361, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata in May of 1918, retired in September of 1956 after amassing over 2,469,000 revenue miles, enshrined at the Curve on 8 June 1957, restored for excursion service during 1987-1988, withdrawn from service and disassembled because of safety concerns, and is now being restored again for further excursion service. Description:  Here is a post card via Peter Outerbridge entitled "Reuben Wells." Caption On Reverse: "'Reuben Wells.' Pennsylvania Railroad's 'Reuben Wells', a locomotive of rather odd proportions, built for the steep grades of the Madison Plane, now a museum piece, is being moved on a flat car [#475716]." Shown here is the PRR's 0-10-0T steam locomotive named "Reuben Wells." It was built by the Madison & Indiana Railroad during 1868, specifically for use on its 5.89% upgrade between Madison and North Madison, Indiana. It's named after its designer, Mr. Reuben Wells. Description:  Here is a post card via Peter Outerbridge entitled "Wilmington Shops." Caption On Reverse: "Wilmington Shops. The main electric shop for the Pennsylvania Railroad was located in Wilmington, Del. This shop also served Penn Central and Amtrak in later years to maintain their fleets of GG-1's and other electric locomotives. GG-1's monopolize the scene in this October 1967 view. Photo by Carl H. Sturner." All nine of the PRR locomotives pictured here are GG-1 (2-C-C-2) electrics rated at 4,620 horsepower each. Of those nine, three are identifiable: #4909, #4878, and #4809. #4909 and #4878 were built in Juniata: the former in December of 1941, the latter in February of 1939. #4809 was constructed by General Electric in July of 1935.

Description:  Here is a post card via Peter Outerbridge entitled "Merger Mania." Caption On Reverse: "Merger Mania. Both of these EMD E-8's ~ Pennsylvania No. 4268 and Illinois Central No. 4032 ~ looked spiffy in this 1967 shot. Alas, soon both railroads became history (well sort of). But to the E-8's, it would only mean new paint jobs." At the left is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4268, an E-8 built by GM-EMD as number "5768" in April of 1952, rated at 2,250 horsepower, and renumbered "4268" in preparation for the PRR-NYC merger. Caption On Reverse: "Pennsylvania Railroad's voluptuous U25C No. 6506 delivered 2,500 hp in a reliable new locomotive introduced in the mid-1960's. It was General Electric's first big 6-axle diesel and, as with many other full-figured diesel models, Pennsy was one of the first railroads to embrace it."
