Looking east on the Lower Road |
Description: |
The water tower in the earlier photos would be somewhere on the right in the middle distance. This scene is taken just east of Winthrop Street looking toward Bridge St. Main line track 1 is to the right & track 2 is on the left.... The walkway across the tracks leads to steps just visible on the left providing access to Oak Street. A tip of the hat to RDY on the MEC Yahoo group who provided the detail../DL |

Freight House |
Description: |
I don't ever recall seeing any MEC buildings painted yellow, they were all two tone gray to my memory. But this one is certainly yellow. The passenger station would have been in the middle of the photo where the parking lot is now. The photo is shot from the Rt202 bridge. The date on the photo is just July 1967. The coaches must all be part of a work train as passenger service ended 7 years earlier. /DL |

Just 1 track now. It goes underground just behind the camera. Today PanAm service ends just a few hundred feet beyond the distant side of the bridge at a junk yard. I belive they run 1 train a week down the east end of the Lower Road from Waterville to the customer, who is just out of sight. /DL |
