PRR 6011, EF-25A, 1965 |
Description: |
Slope to Works. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trains between SLOPE and WORKS Towers in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 06 June 1965. Shown here (F to R) are PRR engines #6011 and #6010. Both are EF-25A's built by EMD in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. They are pulling a westbound ore train which is about to pass under the 12th Street Bridge on its way up to the Horseshoe Curve, the tunnels at Gallitzin, and the steel mills of Pittsburgh. |

This train will surmount the Allegheny Mountains ~ visible in the distance ~ on its way to the steel mills of Pittsburgh. Note the two coal trains on the left, then the westbound freight on the right, and a single passenger-helper locomotive a bit further over. |
