New Orleans Public Service CANAL LINE car 941 was just beginning its trip from the cemeteries to the Mississippi River as it turned off of West End Boulevard and onto City Park Avenue. Greenwood Cemetery was off to the left and the Acme Marble & Granite building was on the other side of the car. The track here was abandoned on 20 August 1951, when the end of the CANAL LINE was moved to Canal Street at City Park Avenue. (approximate date of photo) |

Description: |
New Orleans Public Service car 941 was at the outer end of the CANAL car line and about to begin its trip back to the Mississippi River. Greenwood Cemetery was off to the right, the New Basin Canal had been on the left but was recently filled in, and Metairie Cemetery was off to the left. Up until 15 January 1950 the WEST END line continued on from here to Lake Pontchartrain. The track here was abandoned on 20 August 1951, when the end of this line was moved to Canal Street at City Park Avenue. (approximate date of photo) |
