Onto the double track |
Description: |
A Penn Station bound Port Washington train arrives at Great Neck, coming off the single track section from here to Port. Dont be fooled by the signals. East of the station on the track 2 alignment is a siding, used by trains that turn short here. |

Approach Medium |
Description: |
Now that the NY bound train has cleared the interlocking, the signal has cleared to an Approach Medium. I did not go to check, but the LIRR must have tied the east end of the siding in with the main track when they rebuilt it. Prior to then, the track arrangement here had been the double track ended, tying into the main track, then another switch just to the east to get into the stub end siding-the short section of track 2 between the crossovers did not exist. Now, access to the siding has been made so eastbound trains dont have to take the main track to get there. All new to me since I had moved away 15 years before-as are the M 7's. |
