Description:  SP SD40R 7322 at Bensenville, Illinois on January 23, 1987, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. According to the book, 'Southern Pacific Diesel Locomotive Compendium, Volume Two', by Joseph A. Strapac, this unit was built hn February 1966 as SD40 number 8415 (c/n 31496) , upgraded (completed September 18, 1980) and renumbered to SD40R 7322 at Sacrcmento. The upgrading amounted to replacing the installed electronics with Dash-2 equipment. It was retired August 6, 2002, sold to General Electric Credit Corp., then to BHP-BIO in Australia and renumbered to 3087,

Description:  In this northwestward view of the Southern Pacific and Missouri Pacific yards at Avondale, Louisiana the SP's turntable and little roundhouse were in the foreground, with two sets of road power on the right and a quartet of transfer geeps on the left. The MoP's diesel shop was in the upper left, and the Mississippi River flowed from left to right across the top of the image on its way to the Gulf. The roundhouse and diesel shop are long gone, as are the SP and the MoP!
