12th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during March of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #5842, a unit whose number is not recorded, and #5760. All were built by EMD. #5842 is an EP-20 built in 1947 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. #5760 is an EP-22 built in 1952 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. They are pulling a westbound passenger train under the 12th Street Bridge and are about to stop in front of the Altoona Station. During this stop, not only will passengers get off or board the train, but both engine and train crews will change as well.

Description:
12th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during March of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #5842, a unit whose number is not recorded, and #5760. All were built by EMD. #5842 is an EP-20 built in 1947 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. #5760 is an EP-22 built in 1952 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. Along with their westbound passenger train, they have stopped in front of the Altoona Station. During this stop, not only will passengers get off or board the train, but both engine and train crews will change as well. Visible in the distance is the 17th Street Bridge, as well as three other PRR locomotives; the one in the middle is engine #6513, which will serve as this train's helper up the Allegheny Mountains.

Description:
12th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during March of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #6513 and #5842. #6513 is a GF-25A built by General Electric in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #5842 is an EP-20 built in 1947 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. Their crews are waiting for orders to proceed with their passenger train up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin, whereupon #6513 will uncouple and return to Altoona for yet another helper/pusher run up the Mountains. Visible in the distance are the 12th Street Bridge and two of the original PRR 12th Street Car Shop buildings.

Here is the front cover of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company's 104th Annual Report for the Year Ending 31 December 1950. Issued: 14 March 1951. Color illustration by Mr. Grif Teller. PRR E7 5849 at about 47th Street in Chicago, Illinois on May 9, 1965, Ektachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The E7 was built August 30, 1947 (c/n 3985) on EMD Order E745, became PRR 4209 and later PC 4209. Based on my fading memory, this is between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM, so this could be either Train #48, The General, due out of Union Station at 4:15 PM, or it might be Train #28, The Broadway Limited, due out at 5:00 PM.
