East Troy Electric Railroad |
Description: |
It looked near impossible to try to follow T4 back toward Janesville so we decided to continue eastward. The boys at Whitwater told us to look in to the East Troy Electric Railroad, a small interurban electric railroad that is home to several vintage working interurban cars. Ethan and I decided to head on into East Troy. When we got to the Museum, sure enough, 3 engines and cars were coming back into East Troy after the 14 mile turn. |

With both engines and the cars stopped now awaiting the next run, Ethan and I decided to do some looking around the museum and the engines and cars being used today. The museum was very nice and gave a lot of nice facts about the equipment that is used on the railway and interurban history in general. |

IATR Steeple Cab #30 - Iowa Terminal RR |
Description: |
Built by McGuire in 1915, this little steeple cab has led an interesting life. Built for the Charles City Western Rwy (CCW) as their #300, it was part of the Iowa Terminal RR purchase of the CCW in 1963 and renumbered as #30 for the Charles City electrified section. On May 15, 1968, an F5 tornado went through Charles City, destroying the line’s overhead wires. The ITR decided not to restore the overhead but to “dieselize” the Charles City Division. Motors #53, #30, and Car #101 were transferred to Mason City and basically put into storage. Eventually Motor #30 was sold to the Illinois Railroad Museum, where it is in the final stages of restoration as CCW #300. Specs - 32 ft long, 9'3" wide, engine weight of 7,000 lb, 4 GE 205E motores. No photographer and date is approximate. |

TIRR Steeplecab #75 - Toledo & Indiana RR |
Description: |
Interesting and rare photo of a Toledo & Indiana RR steeplecab. The concept behind the Toledo & Indiana was to link Toledo, Indianapolis & Chicago by interurban rail. Begun as the Toledo & Indiana Rwy, it eventually evolved into the Toledo & Indiana RR. Eventually it was controlled by Cities Services Co after 1926. The interurban section was abandoned in 1939. No exact date in 1937 was given nor was a location or photographer for the photo. |
