NYC 2-4-4T #37 - New York Central |
Description: |
Interesting little yard switcher used in service on the Getty Branch in nearby upstate New York until electrification rendered them redundant and the entire class was retired in December 1926 with the exception of #39 (1913) which was sold to the Lima & Defiance RR. Specs -57" drivers, modest 160 psi boiler pressure, 16x22" cylinders, engine weight of 140,300 lb, modest tractive effort of 13,438 lb. Built by Alco-Brooks in 1912 as the first of the class D-2A, it was later renumbered 1911. This appears to be an Alco-Brooks builder's photo hence the date and location listed. From the Bob Lorenz collection. |

The former CN Diesel Shops are now home to the Niagara Railway Museum. Looks like they're rolling out some relics, including 1920 ALCO Steam HEPC#46, and a very pristine looking CN Caboose. |

IC 0-4-0T #2518 - Illinois Central |
Description: |
Some controversy over the builder of this tank locomotive. Several list Alco and one has Baldwin as the builder but whichever, it is a cute little switcher! No location or photographer listed on this original photo. Thanks to Mr. Gerald (see comment below), this switcher was built by the IC shops in 1888 according to the IC steam records. Specifics - 140 PSI, Weight 72,000 lb; Tractive effort 15,075 lb, Cylinder 16x24, driver 48.5". |

LV 0-4-0T #3500 - Lehigh Valley |
Description: |
This little switcher was only one of two 0-4-0 switchers on the LV roster since the line was primarily hauling heavy loads. It spent its life at the LV's Bronx Terminal shuffling cars. After nearly 33 years of switching duties, the loco was scrapped in August of 1939. Specs - 48" drivers, 180 psi boiler pressure, 16x24" cylinders, modest engine wt of 97,000 lb, very modest tractive effort of 19,584 lb. No date was given for the photo but it had to be before the August, 1939 scrapping. Photo by Anderson. |
