Miscellanea. Here is the first of two duplicate 35mm color slides of photos by Philip R. Hastings that were taken in Watkins Glen, New York, on 4 August 1956. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4245, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during June of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in June of 1941, and retired in April of 1959 after 36 years of faithful service. The water-level gauge on the water tank looks pretty low to me! This photo comes from a color slide set entitled "Steam on the Pennsy's Elmira and Shamokin Branches" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (785-28).

Partially visible here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4245, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during June of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in June of 1941, and retired in April of 1959 after 36 years of faithful service. In the middle distance, note the boat sailing on Seneca Lake. Here is a photo taken by Mr. Glenn Grabill, Jr. It was published originally in the March 1952 issue of "Trains & Travel" magazine, page 43. Partial Caption: "Before dieselization, the Pennsylvania Railroad owned 582 hippopotamus-shaped I-1 class Decapods. No. 4247, shown here on a caboose hop near Canton, O., was turned out by Baldwin in 1923...." PRR engine #4247 is an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by Baldwin as an I-1S during June of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in December of 1941, and retired in March of 1950 after 27 years of faithful service. The number of the N-6 cabin car is not recorded.

Both are I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapods." #3445 was built in Juniata as an I-1S during January of 1919, rebuilt as an I-1SA in January of 1947, and retired in November of 1958. #4268 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S in July of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in August of 1934, and retired in October of 1959. Here is a photo by H.W. Pontin via Rail Photo Service that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in July of 1940. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4289, an I-1S built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during July of 1923 and retired in January of 1956 after 33 years of faithful service. In this context, it's pulling a train of empty hopper cars around the Curve and up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and the coal mines of Western Pennsylvania. Wave to the Fireman! John S.
