PRR 4245, I-1SA, #1 of 2, 1956
Title:  PRR 4245, I-1SA, #1 of 2, 1956
Description:  Miscellanea. Here is the first of two duplicate 35mm color slides of photos by Philip R. Hastings that were taken in Watkins Glen, New York, on 4 August 1956. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4245, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during June of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in June of 1941, and retired in April of 1959 after 36 years of faithful service. The water-level gauge on the water tank looks pretty low to me! This photo comes from a color slide set entitled "Steam on the Pennsy's Elmira and Shamokin Branches" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (785-28).
