Allen. Here is an original photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Logansport, Indiana, on 14 July 1956. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #1743, an H-9S (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an H-8B during December of 1910, rebuilt in Juniata as an H-9S in June of 1923, and retired in November of 1957 after 47 years of faithful service.

Coal Power. Here is an original 35mm color slide (converted to B&W) by D.R. McCulloch that was taken in Camden, New Jersey, on 3 September 1957. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #1777, #784, #5379, #3747, and #6391. #1777 is an H-9S (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an H-8B during January of 1911, rebuilt in Juniata as an H-9S in August of 1916, and retired in October of 1958. #784 is an H-9S (2-8-0) "Condoslidated" built in Juniata as an H-8B and numbered "304" during May of 1911, rebuilt in Juniata as an H-9S and renumbered "5372" in 1918, renumbered "784" in 1921, and retired in October of 1958. #5379 is a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during June of 1924 and retired in April of 1958. Barely visible just to the right of center is #3747, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during March of 1920 and retired in November of 1957. And #6391 is a B-6SB (0-6-0) switcher built in Juniata during December of 1926 and retired in April of 1958.

Here is page eight of a 22-page article by William Moedinger, Jr., entitled "Railroads Of Pennsylvania." It was published originally in the October 1942 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 19. Partial Caption: "When the Philadelphia & Reading was built in 1838, the 1931-foot Black Rock Tunnel was a major engineering project. The main line crosses to the north bank of the river as it leaves the tunnel, and proceeds upon its way to Reading and the anthracite mining districts around Pottsville and Mahoney City."

Description:
Here is page 14 of an 18-page excerpt from Charles S. Roberts' 1997 book entitled "Triumph I: Altoona To Pitcairn 1846-1996," page 52. Photo and text provide details of a runaway-train wreck that occurred on the Pennsylvania Railroad's New Portage Branch line in Duncansville, Pennsylvania, 6 November 1916. Partially visible at the far right is engine #2115, an H-6A (2-8-0) "Consoldiated" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in June of 1902 and retired in June of 1927 after 25 years of service.
