CN 4-6-2 #5601 - Canadian National |
Description: |
Parked next to am iconic water tower is Canadian National 4-6-2 #5601. This loco went through several renumberings during its lifetime. Originally built as Grand Trunk Rwy #201 by the GTR shops in 1910, it was renumbered GTR #291 in 1911, renumbered GTW 5601 in 1923 and finally moved onto the CN roster in November of 1924. (Serial #1501, GTR class P4, CN class K-3-d) The loco was scrapped in November of 1960 after 50 years of service. No date, location or photographer was listed for the photo but Bruce Gemmel found the info. This is a Harold Kinzie photo taken at Durham, Ontario, on July 23, 1955. The engine will take the empty gondolas at far left to a nearby gravel quarry. Many thanks, Bruce, for your help! |
