Prototype G109A Coal Gondola NS 46000
Title:  Prototype G109A Coal Gondola NS 46000
Description:  This car is one of four prototype BethGon II CoalPorter gondolas bought in 2005 from Freight Car America. These cars were built with a mixture of steel, aluminum, and stainless steel, with a 4105 cubic foot capacity. Cars NS 46000 and 46001 are classified as NS class G109A, while cars NS 46002 and 46003 are classified as NS class G109B. The differences in classes is in the amount of stainless steel and aluminum in the cars. Also, 46000 and 46002 were painted, while 46001 and 46003 were unpainted. After testing these four cars, NS placed an order in 2006 for 1200 cars similar to the G109B test cars, but were classified as G113 gondolas, numbered as NS 46100-47299. Thanks to Chris Toth from NSDash9.com for information on this car.
