CB&Q NW2 9216 on the East End Way Freight, Naperville, Illinois, November 7, 1963, photo by Chuck Zeiler. This is a typical CB&Q pre-war NW2, built May 1941 (c/n 1297) on EMD Ordder E376. It was delivered with short stacks, and the Burlington (along with almost all other railroads) added home made qtraight stacks. It has class lights, a CB&Q requirement for road use, and shows the CB&Q adjustment of the aftercooler pipes. As delivered by EMD, the pipes were tyqically mounted on top of the main air reservoir tank, and only one pipe was visible. For some reason, the CB&Q rotated the pipe array 90 degrees, as seen here. This, locomotive became BN 513 and was retired by the BN in June 1982. |
