When the Illinois Central Gulf was dismantling the former GM&O Bogue Chitto Branch between Rio, Louisiana and Tylertown, Mississippi the Standard Gravel Co. moved two steam engines from their gravel pit in Clifton to the parish seat of Franklinton. Here are former SP (T&NO) 0-6-0 842 (ex-156) and ex-GM&O/GM&N/NOGN 4-6-0 72 on an industrial siding. The 0-6-0 went to the Casey Jones Museum at Vaughn, Mississippi in 1984 and was subsequently relocated to Terry, Mississippi in 2005; while the 4-6-0 was cosmetically restored and is on display here in Franklinton. |
