ex-GB&W RS2 303 on the C&NW at Proviso, Illinois, October 1979, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Built in February 1950 as GBW 303 (c/n 77:16), the purchase price was $142,694.00. At some date the air-cooled turbocharger was changed to a water-cooled version, changing the exhaust stack orientation from length-wise to cross-wise, as seen here. One source indicates this locomotive was sold to the Ann Arbor in 1979, and later it was sold to Rail Rebuilders (which may explain the RRB reporting marks), later moved to Lake Superior Railroad Museum. However/ it appears that it now resides at Mineral Range, Inc., WSOR at Horicon, Wisconsin. Sometime during 1988 it was repainted to NYC 8203. |
