Well Robert, I think the switch at Bemco was open & the train went in the spur. Wish someone would give us more info.

I lived in Shelby when this derailment happened, but I first heard about it afterwards. The spur in question went to "Demco", an agricultural supply company owned by the Denton family. God bless.

The guardrail seen at the right was for a bridge on Old Highway 61. You could call it "Very Old Highway 61" since a new four-lane section bypassed Shelby about 2004-5.

Thanks for the info, Chris. My wife & I were over there last year at the same spot. You could still see the road bed, but the trees & vines have taken over now. It doesn't look like the wreck ever occured or trains even ran through here.
