CB&Q in St Paul Daytons Bluff yard in 1968.
The CB&Q used a trio of SW switchers to run transfers up the BIG HILL in St Pa ul with the GN, NP, CNW, Soo Line and other railroad in the Twin Cities around St. Paul and Minneapolis, MN. The grade out of St. Paul is very steep and I read is as tough a grade as that in the Rocky Mountains.

Robert Anderson General Nice set of shots in the Dayton's Bluff/Hoffman Ave area. Memories of "the good old days". Indeed steep grade to Mpls via GN Dale St or NP Como Ave. 2.17%,thus a pusher district. Milw up out of Chestnut St was 2.2% Many times Mpls transfers with 3 AS616 Baldwins would stall Fordson Jct/W7th St area, until pushed. In fact SP 4449 Freedom Train did just that. 3 F-units came to that rescue. These 3 look familiar. Sometimes ran with 4. Thanks for sharing. 6/7/2018 12:03:10 AM
