Two of the newer GE ES44AC-H's shoving a coal train through the mountains between Casparis and Indian Creek. Why is it so dirty looking already you ask? Well you'd get dirty too if you got put on the back of these coal trains. Note the metal box on the ground. That is a grease box which puts grease on the train wheels for less friction on curves. Friction shortens the lifespan of both the wheels and the rails.

David Waters General How does it work, pressure, electric, timer??? 10/27/2013 10:09:06 AM
Curt Beal General From what I have read, the wheels pass over a pressure sensitive plate which gives hydraulic pressure to the grease in the box making it move through the hose. 10/29/2013 12:10:47 PM
