Unit built as GP-7, wrecked at Matthews,N.C. ( Just East of Charlotte) and returned to EMD, which rebuilt as GP-7, but with then current GP-9 hood., Later SCL 981, one of three SAL GP-7's that went straight to SCL black and never ran in split image scheme on SCL.

SAL 1801 is basically a GP9 with a GP7 1500-HP engine. All body details are that of a GP9.
