Here is a photo from an article entitled "Rush From Labrador." It was published originally in the July-August 1959 issue of "Pennsy" magazine, page 15. The photographer is not identified. Photo Caption: "Extra locomotives in the middle and rear help ore train over mountain west of Altoona." Visible in the foreground is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #8675, an AS-18AM built by the American Locomotive Company in March of 1958 and rated at 1,800 horsepower. Also visible near the apex of the Curve is Pennsylvania Railroad steam locomotive #1361, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during May of 1918 and retired in May of 1956. |
