Long a display among the various pieces of the museum's collection, this former Lehigh Valley caboose awaits departure to a new home outside the former shops of the Blue Mountain & Reading Railroad. Built in the 1940s, this style of caboose was originally thought up by Reading Company officials to satisfy government regulations of the time. The Lehigh Valley had cabooses of this style constructed beginning in 1939, the final members of the fleet rolling out of the shops in 1946 for a total of ninety two. |
