CR RS3m #9932 - Conrail
A lone Alco RS3m unit, CR #9932, sits in the Altoona yard. Having been painted in the CR blue, it indicates that this loco will serve the new roster rather than ending up like so many locos in the scrap lines. No exact date in 1979 was given and no photographer was listed.

Tom Beckett General These units were rebuilt using EMD 567 engines from scrapped E 8's. Note the EMD stacks, and the squared off section around them. This was done to accommodate the size of the EMD power plants, which were a little bigger than the Alco hood. A number of these lasted into the early 80's. They were known as "Dewitt Geeps" due to being done at Dewitt shop in Syracuse. 6/4/2021 4:03:43 AM
