Here is the second of three original photos by Douglas C. Jones that were taken from the 17th Street Bridge in the Juniata section of Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1953. Visible in the foreground is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6835, an M-1 (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during September of 1926 and retired in March of 1957. To the left of it is engine #9889, an H-10S (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during August of 1915 and retired in October of 1958; note that its cylinder covers have been removed in preparation for movement to the Recycling Center. Partially visible at the far right is the East Altoona Roundhouse. |
