| Excellent example of a repurposed older loco, the Reading Shops rebuilt RDG 2-8-8-2 #1801 (serial #44890) into this 2-10-2 Santa Fe type loco in 1927. It lasted until being scrapped in 1954 when diesels arrived. A note on the back of the photo by the photographer states "RDG Co #3001 (2-10-2) class K-1-sa, on coal train on East Penn line, Reading to Allentown, starting up Blandon hill from Reading yard." No photographer was listed but this may be an Alton E. Bowers photo. |
