Long before an NYC F7A carried the number NYC 1736, this ALCo-Schenectady built 2-8-2 Mikado wore the number. Originally delivered in September of 1918 as Toledo & Ohio Central #9736 (serial # 59552), it was reunumbered in August of 1936 to NYC 1736 and later in June of 1951, it was again renumbered to NYC 6329. The loco was finally retired in November of 1954 and scrapped. Specs - serial # H-6a class, 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" cylinders, engine weight of 300,500 lb, tractive effort of 54,720 lb. The photo is from the Howard W. Ameling collection. |
