BNSF 2931 leads YLAC0730  Contributor's Pick!
A unique unit, BNSF 2931 was one of the original patch jobs that was not repeated, seen here coming out of the woods to cross Torrance Ave. This trains entire trip from Watson to Alcoa Yard is all now in yard limits due to the downgrading of the Harbor Sub. #2931 began life as a Union Pacific GP35 in June of 1964 (UP #746). Retired in August of 1983, she went to NRE and then to EMD as a hulk. EMD rebuilt the unit to GP39-2 standards. The model GP39E indicates an EMD rebuild as oppsed to the GP39M rebuilds done at the same time by Morrison-Knudson.
