PRR 9607, AF-15, 1961 |
Description: |
4th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during January of 1961. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #9607 and #9614-B. Both were built by the American Locomotive Company. #9607 is an AF-15 built in 1950 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. #9614-B is an AF-16 built in 1951 and rated at 1,600 horsepower. They have just passed under the 4th Street Bridge with a mixed-cargo freight train on their way up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West. Bringing-up the rear are "pushers" #8655, #8676, and #8661. ("Red Shift" slide converted to Black & White.) |
