WSOR 3806 ambles down the tracks towards MX crossing. If you look hard, you can still see a signal stand (inoperable) in the distance guarding the once-busy diamond that resides in the middle of Monona Bay. It's rare to see a wye movement here, and although I wasn't set up for a good shot, seeing the move was enough of a treat for me. |

Having safely set out a cut of loads on the Kohl center siding, the crew takes about a dozen more loads to be spotted in the UW-Heater plant (out of picture at right). Interestingly enough, this is the fourth grade crossing that the train has passed since leaving the yard 2-3 miles ago that passes diagonally through the middle of an intersection. Gotta love the city planning here... |

Description: |
Heat lines distort this view of 3806 backing down Madison Gas & Electric's spur in the isthmus. It's a hot one- high 80s and stuffy. The coal being spotted will eventually supply the demand for air conditioning on days like these. The crew has to rely on more conventional methods, like leaving the cab door open. |
