Description: |
Hazy. Here is an original photo that I took of a Penn Central Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during July of 1973. Shown here (L to R) are PC engines #6076, #6161, #6142, and another unit whose number is not recorded. All were built by EMD. #6076 is an SD-40 built in 1966 and rated at 3,000 horsepower; its original PRR number was the same. #6161 and #6142 are SD-45's built in 1967 and rated at 3,600 horsepower each; their original PRR numbers were the same. They are passing under the 4th Street Bridge with their merchandise freight train, and are about to begin climbing the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West. Visible in the foreground is the two-track, west-facing signal bridge; the 7th Street Bridge is also visible in the distance. |
