Title: |
ATSF 4-4-2 #1497 - Atchison, Topeka & Sant` Fe |
Description: |
Built by Baldwin in 1910, the class was originally nicknamed Bull Mooser for the odd 3 dome appearance and external steam piping, but the Santa Fe shops eventually simplified and superheated the class ik the 1920' like #1497 here. That removed the extra steam dome and streamlined the external piping. They were very handy for branch-line local passenger service and lasted until the early 1950's. Original specs - class 1480, 73" drivers,#220 psi, 15x26" high pressure cylindevs, 25x26" low pressure cylinders, engine weight of 231,675 lb, tractive effort of 22,038 lb. No date, location or photographer listed but it appears to be in Wichita, KS based on the background building. |
