TRB. Here is the second of two successive 35mm color slides of photos by John M. Prophet III that were taken at the Rockville Bridge near Rockville, Pennsylvania. Shown here are two Pennsylvania Railroad Class "M" (4-8-2) "Mountain" locomotives. At the left is #6760, an M-1B built in Juniata as an M-1A during 1930, rebuilt as an M-1B in May of 1948, and retired in September of 1959. At the right is #6948, an M-1 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in December of 1926 and retired in September of 1959. They have just passed ROCKVILLE Tower, and are about to cross the Bridge with an iron-ore train bound for the steel mills of Western Pennsylvania. |

Portraits 4. Here is a steam locomotive portrait by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 27 August 1957. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6948, an M-1 (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during December of 1926 and retired in September of 1959 after 33 years of service. Partially visible in the background is the East Altoona Coaling Tipple. (#36 of 40) |
