PRR Juniata Shops, c. 1953
Title:  PRR Juniata Shops, c. 1953
Description:  WB. Here is an image of an aerial photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1953. Shown here are the yard and the turntable at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Erecting & Machine Shop during the transition from the "Age of Coal" to the "Age of Oil." Looks to me like the diesels have firmly gained the upper hand as there are six of them marshalled for shop entry, but there's only one steamer in a like position. In the foreground are several steam locomotives awaiting future work, but one of them ~ a switcher ~ has already bitten the dust . . . alas. William E. Burket Collection.
