Title:
PRR 612, K-4SA, 1957
Description:
Mann. Here is a color photo by Raymond J. Muller that was taken near Jamesburg, New Jersey, on 20 October 1957. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #612, K-4SA (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata as a K-4S during April of 1917, later equipped with a front-end throttle and reclassified as a K-4SA, and retired in April of 1958 after 41 years of faithful service. According to Mr. Robert Hess, "This photo was taken on October 20, 1957, during a steam excursion sponsored by the Branford Electric Railway Association. No. 612 replaced a GG1 which handled the train from Penn Station, NY to South Amboy, NJ. The train then proceeded over the New York & Long Branch RR to Sea Girt, then the Freehold branch to Jamesburg, and finally the Amboy branch returning to South Amboy, where a GG1 took over again" for the return journey to New York's Penn Station. (Gift from Brad Mann.)
